In
Italy it is fairly common for Nonna's to make their grandchildren
Pane di Pasqua aka Easter Bread. It's a delicious treat. The bread is often flavored with lemon and/or anise, is braided, formed into a ring, and has one or more Easter eggs as part of it.

So using my
basic potato bread recipe, I made my kids
Star Wars Italian Easter Bread. We made two types. The
traditional sweet treat and one that was instead flavored with
garlic and cheese to go with dinner.

Instead of baking the
Easter eggs into it, I made egg forms from foil
and parchment paper and used them as placeholders for our
Easter Eggs
after the bread came out of the oven.

To get whatever type of candy sprinkles to stick to the top one can use either a milk or egg wash on top of the bread, before sprinkling it. As it bakes you may need to place a piece of foil loosely over the top to keep the tops from getting too brown. Buon Appetito!
